i'm in AWE!

i just watched the opening ceremony for beijing olympics 2008. (actually, i am watching the repeat telecast now)

I AM SO IMPRESSED!

Athens was alright, okay, predictable. however, i am so proud to be a chinese all of a sudden!

the opening ceremony effectively captured the great inventions of china - paper, sundial, ink and FIREWORKS (they use so much, machiam they are free!)


the fireworks for NDP tml night will look pale in comparison. and talking abt NDP, i think 90% of singaporeans bothered to watch the opening ceremony compared to PM Lee's national day speech. oops. even MM Lee is more interested in olympics since he is there himself. (jkjkjkjk)

they have also brilliantly made FULL USE of their greatest resource - HUMAN BEINGS. there are 10k performers approximately!

i like the whole ceremony, maybe except the part where athletes grace through and wave to everyone. hahaha. i was waiting for singapore lah......................... there were 204 participating countries and singapore was among the last 20! so can you imagine.....!

the part i like most will be the final leg of the torch relay!

usually, athletes will just do the relay and the last person will usually run to the central platform to light up and kick start the games (at least in Athens) but not this time! i was :O the whole time.............

the last torch bearer, Li Ning, literally FLEW UP TO THE SKY!

just imagine that he is being lifted to the air by 2 thin strings!

he is spotted in a continuous "running" motion and that's how he completed his 'lap' around the whole stadium!
and lastly, he tried to lit this weird looking thing and tadah!

haha. my description don sound so good. but the whole thing was AWESOME. i cannot find any clip how to show you how magnificent the whole thing was. but i promise i will post it immediately when i see it!

can everyone be proud of what beijing just did? i'm sure now, almost everyone on the planet knows 2 words - Beijing and China. :D

and today (08/08/08) is his 27th birthday! never mind that he is dropping to number 2 on my birthday (a record he held for 4.5 years). nonetheless, I LOVE YOU ROGER and hope you will win a GOLD!

i cannot wait to watch swimming and track! other sports too but these 2 are the ones which will end the fastest, meaning more excitement! heh heh. do catch the highlights on tv tml, i'm sure you will be impressed too!
