SHAG MAN!
had a happening weekend. after my arduous journey to town on friday which drained every bit of energy left in my body, i woke up at 1pm (with less than 8 hours of sleep) and zooooomed to my sister's place to make my 'surprises' for the girls!
the process was very fun because i asked my sister to help me and in the end she helped to 'salvage' whatever i've done wrongly hahahaha!
after that, i zoooomed to tampines to meet the rest of the gang and had pizza for dinner before going over to tampines safra for some games and had our 'lame' gift exchange! (budget: $3)
this time the games we played were not as 'engaging' as the last time we played. the most fun game has to be 'jenga' and jean is officially the clown cuz she failed physics seriously. hahahaha. (for photos, pls refer to facebook as i am very lazy to upload and describe here haha!)
i'm so happy everyone is prepared (ok except zehou he didnt even wrap it lah AND I TOOK HIS PRESENT! no element of surprise...)

MR 'C'!i stupidly stared at the shirt for damn long, trying to understand what the shirt means when the rest already burst into laughter and i innocently shouted "WHAT IS MR C LAH?!"

after that, we went to tampines mall for midnight movie! although tamp safra is "not very far" but the girls (okok only kah insisted against walking) have the luxury of being driven there while the guys (other than zh, the driver) walked there
smiling so happy before the movie, which turns out to be crap (and crappier for esther due to the inconsiderate bitch sitting behind her)i only reached home at about 3am and slept at 5am. so bloody tired.. and i woke up at 8am for my sister's church christmas celebration with the leprosy elderly. it has been a while since i last did some volunteering and the elderly are surprising cheerful although they are plagued with the disease. there is this ah-ma who tried to have a small talk with me and i find it quite hilarious.
ah-ma: you are teochew? (in teochew)
me: ehh, no. i am hokkien (in hokkien)
ah-ma: where you stay? (in hokkien, but i still didnt understand the question hahaha!)
me: eh, you asking me where i stay is it? (in mandarin)
ah-ma: yes yes
me: oh, hougang!
ah-ma: what is your surname? (in hokkien, but i still didnt understand the question hahaha!)
me: my surname? toh (in mandarin)
i wanted to have a more in-depth conversation with her but my hokkien vocab is very very limited. she asked me questions like "is the magician female?" but i couldnt answer cuz i have no idea how magician is pronounced in hokkien. i was like an idiot trying to speak but nothing comes out.
then it comes the interesting and embarrassing part.
a worker walked towards the ah-ma and asked her some questions. i was so impressed cuz the worker is filipino and to me, the only way she can communicate with the ah-ma is through dialects like teochew/hokkien! but to my horror/amazement, the ah-ma replied in perfect fluent english!
WAHSEH. i could have just talk to her using english lah! but why in the first place the ah-ma spoke to me in teochew???!!!!
*shameful*
the rest of the afternoon is spent on my bed. SO TIRING. then i woke up in time for dinner and watched the dumb soccer match between singapore and vietnam. when they were playing the national anthem at the national stadium (which they say they want to demolish the place in 2005), every singaporean in the stadium was singing so loudly and with pride! there is this woman caught on the television who is singing with such passion that she opens her mouth FULLY and holding the singapore flag.
woah. been donkey years since i last saw someone so patriotic. at that instant, to me singaporeans still have a strong sense of belonging and unity and we can definitely overcome the odds of a severe economic recession ahead of us (so emotional hahaha!)
but after the match i was watching the channel 5 news about the possibility of free or lowering public transport fares in singapore, all the hopes i have earlier diminished.
according to the transport minister (i don even want to remb his name), he claimed that it is possible for singaporeans to enjoy free public transport at the expense of rising the GST up another 1.5%, which is 8.5%. the net effect will be on taxpayers again and there is not much benefit.
what he said is true. but what irks me is this.
the last time our public transport fares are raised is due to the rising cost in oil prices right? recently, oil prices have dropped substantially and members of the public are concerned with the rising inflation and they questioned the transport authority about the possibility of reducing the cost of public transport. the minister gave an excuse which i deemed to be "lame and senseless".
according to his 'theory', the rise in transport cost has no direct link.only a little bit of link to the oil prices. (wth this was the reason given when they decided to increase public transport fares!) so we cannot lower the fares now although oil prices has dropped.
PLEASE LAH.
after taking 'cities in transition', i really have to agree with dr pow that not all the policies made by the government are good. we 'assume' that whatever the government do is 'definitely beneficial' to us, right? (at least to me in my opinion before realising how dumb and naive i was) but in many situation, policies the implement do not solve problem but to complicate things in such a way that they are no longer easy to be solved so that people like us can argue and salvage the situation anymore.
damn it. and i hate the way the minister (or is he a member of parliment?) answers the question from the public. his attitude is like a gangster trying to pick up a fight.
wah omg, 2nd half of this entry is so aggressive. hahahaha. i'm sorry i really need to rant out the injustice i am feeling now. DAMN IT.
okay i need to calm myself down now, by watching arsenal vs. liverpool. hahaha!
