7-year teritary life
>> Wednesday, March 10, 2010
most friends of mine spent 5 tertiary years (2 JC + 3 uni) but i spent a whopping 7 years!
2 years JC + 1 year SIM/UOL + 4 years NUS
even longer than primary school. hahahaa.
i think 70% of my friends are graduating this summer and are starting work soon while i still have 2 years to go. do i feel left out? yes, i do in a way since i will be 23 near 24 when i graduate!
i was ashamed of myself for being "retained" at SIM for a year when i just joined NUS. i had to cope with questions like "eh, you are born in 1988 but you are from JC?"
i have answered that question countless times and now i simply tell pple "ya i got retained. i am from MJC mah."
haha.
anyway, i am a lot more comfortable with that now than in the beginning. i was afraid whether they will accept me, whether will they judge me and give me strange look... but i am glad so far my friends have been great and most of the time we joked our academic journey like some secondary school kids. i am really thankful that they did not treat me any differently even though some of them are really smart and were from reputable schools. (and i hope it is not my naive thinking... i do choose my friends wisely and not those superficial ones!)
never will i dare to dream that i can find 2 GREAT friends in uni, cuz in JC it always felt like we dedicated all our time to studies and bgr no one was really interested in forging any long-term friendship even though we see each other everyday. although we do chat/crap every night on msn.. but usually with an agenda.
nowadays, i hardly chat on msn with the cheapos because we appear offline/have no topic in mind. i am quite sad about it but i guess we are all busy with our lives. sometimes i really think whether is it my fault by not taking the first step... but u have to understand that mac does not allow me to chat with pple appearing offline. i can only chat with pple appearing offline if they come and talk to me! (yes la yes la excuses hahahaha)
but i am glad that i found 2 friends who are willing to take my jokes, get bullied by me, laugh at me.. it felt like secondary school all over again.
even studying is so enjoyable. i stayed in school till 9.30pm today although my day started at 7.30am. we do stupid things like giving each other nicknames and creating mindless (and secretive) facebook group to record our mugging times..
when was the last time you do something so fun, so carefree? it certainly felt like eternity for me...
thank you shi yun and cassandra for transforming my darkness-filled tertiary life with vibrancy again. you guys made me laugh and cry so hard and so loudly, wrote truthful messages and letters to me, gave me encouragement, explain things to me that i dunno...... you 2 have no idea how much i am thankful for. and studying for 2 weeks in school last sem improved our cap trememdously to 3.9, 4.1 and 4.3 and i am sure if we continue to motivate one another we can do better.
although my tertiary education took a little longer to complete, i am willing to trade in the extra2 years of my life to know great people like them. i wonder if i have the luxury in finding 2 great friends if i entered NUS successfully the first time round. (but of cuz i am also thankful i went SIM for a year if not i will not know huiqing my ultimate gossip partner!! :D)
i am looking forward to our summer programme to tokyo uni! may all 3 of us get it! :D

hoho hello hello it's good to hear that! and yeah, i feel it's pretty sad too that we seldom get to meet up these days. but i guess that's life when we all grow up, have more things to do and put our priorities in your life. but even if that's the case, i don believe that we're only friends when we meet up often, i guess bonds are much more than that superficial definition.
even when we're 30, busy with work and kids and cooking, we're still friends!
p/s: omg i hopeeeeeee i can go KU too! my results will be out soon so good news please!
